What Are Mattress Toppers and Mattress Protectors?
With the wide variety of different products available, it's easy to get lost in a world of bedding and confused as to what is right for you. We're often asked how a mattress topper is different to a mattress protector. Here we explain some of the most asked questions about mattress toppers and mattress protectors to help you make the right decisions for your establishment.
What is the difference between a mattress protector and a mattress topper?
A mattress topper works as an extension of the mattress, giving a bit of extra height, depth and cushioning. They are a great way of giving a new lease of life to a tired and older mattress and can often make the bed feel brand new.
Mattress protectors do exactly what they say, protect the mattress. The average adult sweats approximately a pint of moisture every night. Add this to allergens including dead skin cells, dust mites and animals hairs that find their way onto your mattress and its lifespan will decrease. The mattress protector forms a barrier around your mattress to protect against all these things and you should really see it as an investment to prolong your mattresses life.
Do I Need a Mattress Topper and a Mattress Protector?
Mattress toppers and mattress protectors can be used on their own or together to add comfort and elongate the life of your mattress. It all depends on what you are looking for. If your mattresses are pretty comfortable already you may simply decide to add a protector to it. This will save you money in the long run as your mattress will last longer. It will also really help those guests who suffer from allergies.
Alternatively, you may want to give your mattress a boost. Perhaps you’re offering a luxury stay for your guests and you want to boast about giving them the ultimate in comfort when staying at your establishment. For this, adding a deep fill mattress topper would be the perfect addition to your beds. It would always be best to add a protector too in this instance.
Do I need bed sheets when I use a mattress topper?
You will still want to add bed sheets when making your beds with a mattress topper. Do remember that your bed now has added height so it may require larger sheets.
Do I need bed sheets when I use a mattress protector?
The mattress protector is there for protection but you will still want to use a sheet on top of this when making the bed for your guests. Putting a sheet over the top of it will give added comfort for your guests and in turn, elongate the life of your protector.
Should a mattress topper be put under or over a mattress protector?
If you want to use both on a bed you’re best to put the mattress topper on the mattress, place the mattress protector on top and finish off with a sheet over that. This will then help to protect and elongate the life of both your mattress and your mattress topper.
